Duplicating a Case
When you need to perform the same repair or service on more than one asset, you don't have to build each case from scratch. Duplicate Case lets you carry the operations, labor, parts, and complaint details from an existing case into a new case for a different asset. This is especially useful for standardized or repetitive work, such as a recall or a fleet-wide inspection, where the same work must be performed across multiple assets.
The original case is never changed when you duplicate it. Pricing, approvals, and billing status are not carried over. Totals are recalculated based on the asset you select.

Selecting the Asset
-
Open the case you want to duplicate, and select Duplicate Case.
- On the Asset Selection step, choose whether to search Portal Assets or DMS Assets. This is where you’ll select the asset for which the new case will be created.
Choose a field to search by: All, Serial, Unit, License, Chassis ID, VIN, or Engine.
- Enter your search term and select Search.
- Select the asset for which the new case will be created.
NOTE: The new case is created for the asset you select here. The original case and its assets remain unmodified.
Choosing What to Carry Over
On the Case Details step, choose which details from the original case should be included in the new case. Pricing, approvals, and billing status will not be carried over.
- Operations: Includes Operation Details, Labor Time, Parts, and VMRS Coding.
- Case-Level Complaint
You can select either option, both, or neither, depending on what the new case needs.
Reviewing and Duplicating
The Review and Duplicate step shows the asset and case details you selected.
Review the summary, then select Duplicate Case to create the new case.
If the duplication fails, an error message appears on the Review and Duplicate step. Select Duplicate Case again to retry.
After Duplicating
Once the new case is created, a success notification appears on the original case, with a link to view it.
The first time you open the new case, a banner appears at the top letting you know it was duplicated from the original case, with a link back to it. This banner only appears once per user, the first time the case is opened.
